Allegedly Assaulted - Hagerstown police say a caregiver conspired with two other men to steal a large amount of cash from a woman.
Hagerstown, Mo. - The Hagerstown Police Department has arrested three people for the alleged assault and attempted murder of a 96-year-old woman.

Hagerstown police were called to a home on Marshall Street on March 7 where they found the woman with serious injuries and injuries to her head, neck and face. The woman claimed that a man came to her house and tried to kill her, officials said.

Court documents revealed the elderly woman was approaching the front door when she heard the screen door open. He remembered a masked man pushing him to the ground and putting his hands over his throat and mouth. She felt like he was trying to kill her as she struggled to breathe.
Upon further investigation, detectives learned that 33-year-old Angel Parker of Hagerstown provided domestic help to the woman and was aware of the large amount of money in the home.
Hagerstown police allege that Parker, along with her boyfriends, 23-year-old Jacob Kich-Nordsik and 23-year-old Taylor Alexander, planned to steal $10,000 in cash from a box.
Surveillance videos from Scott's Speed Shop next door captured two of the three heading to the woman's home. Parker remained outside and appeared to be acting as a lookout, the court document said.

"I can't believe anybody is cool enough to do that," said Scott Hoffman, owner of Scott's Speed Shop. "I hope they burn in hell. That's all I can say."

The victim was treated and released from the hospital. Talked to him after more than a week. He still has bruises around his neck and face. The elderly woman was also wearing a health alert necklace that she used to press and contact 911 when the suspects left.
"It may have saved his life," said Mike Piercy, director of social services for Washington County. "These technologies can be important in this kind of thing."

Among other things, Piercy said elder abuse is a problem, noting that financial abuse targeting the elderly has increased 25% in Washington County over the years.
He strongly encouraged people to do background checks, run a person's name against a Maryland judicial case search, and find out if the person is with a reputable licensed agency.
"We are very thankful that this brave woman was not more seriously injured or killed," Hagerstown police said in a statement. "HPD would like to acknowledge the responding officers and EMTs who provided initial treatment and the quick work of HPD detectives. All three subjects have been arrested and are being held without bond."
